Old Colfe's Festival
On Sunday we had two mixed teams at the Old Colfe's Festival who represented the children of those Dad's brave enough to stand up to the tyranny of Mother's Day. Our teams played 7 matches winning six and drawing one. We usually try to pick out stand out players but for the first time we have decided not to do so as both teams genuinely played as teams and tackled like demons. We were complimented by the coaches of Old Elthamians, Beckenham and Old Colfe's as to the consistent standard of our tackling across all players in both teams. One coach came up after a match against our boys saying - how did you get them to like tackling, your boys like tackling and are egging each other on to do more. Highlights were Paul's Warriors last match against an unbeaten Edenbridge Team who really fancied their chances having destroyed all of their previous opponents. The Warriors defended so well, coming up in a line fast which gave their opponents no time and driving them back time after time. The Warriors ran out winners by a two try margin after some amazing direct running from all of the players and to quote Coach Paul ' that is the best I have ever seen a Whits Team play'. ......Highlight for the Warthogs was the match against the Old Elthamians team of Goliaths who had two players who looked like under 12s. One player made our players look like his half time snacks - he was that big and scary. The Warthogs defence was very different to the Warriors as they employed a drift defence, and having given away a try after 5 seconds, earned the best 1-1 draw I have ever seen at this age group. That was despite the Warthogs dropping or knocking on the ball eight times in the match. The defence against the goliaths was simply epic. The players in both teams should be really proud of their performances and we will not name stand outs other than the Players of the Tournament - Ronnie (for amazing last gasp try saving tackles) and Finn Leadbitter (for his incredible tackle count).
