This was a fitting end to the season. A game that had everything, exemplifying the strengths and weaknesses which have been displayed throughout this campaign.

There was, of course, “idiosyncratic” refereeing with scant regard paid to players’ welfare, the niceties of the breakdown or the offside line.

We saw some fantastic tries; wonderful solo efforts from Hally and, less surprisingly, JL, alongside the length of the field passing movements, close-range charges from the departing Smit and a rolling maul that proved unstoppable from a considerable distance.

There were moments of twinkle-toed magic, expert juggling and pure power. Forwards offloaded and made basketball style passes while the backs showed plenty of gas. The scrum was, typically, totally dominant and the lineout had its best day of the season. In and amongst this, and true to form, we dropped two restarts and at least one try scoring pass, missed several tackles and generally conspired to keep Law Society in the game for as long as possible.

It was great to see Monksy on the field again and sad to be saying au revoir to Jim and Smit, who will be sadly and badly missed. I’m sure they enjoyed their swansongs, as did the merry (especially Gunni) band of supporters. For once there were more of us than them!

The season ended with a 53-22 victory and the Jazzer's fifth in the league. All of this left us (well, AP and I anyway) asking, as usual, what would be possible with more consistent availability.

A big thank you to everyone who has played and provided such high-quality, free entertainment throughout the season. Also to the growing band of supporters, the coaches and particularly to those who work so hard behind the scenes to make it all happen.

Bring on next season! We hope without the ridiculous and unplayable law changes that have been suggested.
